  • 1.jfif INS Vikrant- the country's first indigenous Aircraft carrier
  •  262 metre-long, 62 metre-wide, displacing 44,800 tonnes
  •  powered by four General Electric LM2500 engines
  • maximum speed- 28 knots

It was manufactured by Cochin Shipyard Ltd.
The need for a much a bigger carrier and newer technology is why the Navy settled for a repeat of Vikrant-sized carrier.
The keel of Vikrant was laid in 2009 and it was commissioned in 2022.
It was named after India's first aircraft carrier, commissioned from the UK (1961).
The Navy also operates INS Vikramaditya, 44,500 tonnes, which also employs STOBAR and is procured from Russia.
