WEST BENGAL GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES A 'MANGROVE CELL'
West Bengal, home to about 40% of the mangrove forests in India, announced the setting up of a mangrove cell, on the occasion of the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem.
26 July- International Day for Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystem
• It aims to raise awareness of the importance of mangrove ecosystems as “a unique, special and vulnerable ecosystem”.
• This day was adopted by the General Conference of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2015.
