On his two-day visit to France, PM Modi attended the French National Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour.

JULY 14– THE NATIONAL DAY OF FRANCE, ALSO KNOWN AS BASTILLE DAY

• It is known as La Fete Nationale or Le 14 Juillet in French.
• It is the anniversary of the storming of the infamous Bastille prison in 1789. It is widely considered as beginning of the French Revolution.
• The fall of the Bastille symbolized the people’s victory over the monarchy and the end of the old regime.
• One year later (1790), while Louis XVI was still on the throne, the Fête de la Fédération was observed, to celebrate unity among the French people

• Why in news? - On his two-day visit to France, PM Modi attended the French National Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour.

  • A Tri-services marching contingent of Indian Armed Forces will Participate in the celebrations to commemorate the everlasting bond between both the nations.
