The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the PM-PRANAM (PM Programme for Rejuvenation, Awareness, Generation, Nourishment and Amelioration of Mother Earth) scheme. The scheme would promote use of nutrient-based biofertilizers for sustainable agriculture.
Its aim is to save the soil and promote balanced use of fertilizers, and it involves the participation of State governments. The Centre would incentivize those states which would adopt alternative fertilizers with the subsidy that was saved by reducing the use of chemical fertilizers.
The scheme involves a bouquet of various schemes which would boost farmers' income, rejuvenate soil, productivity and ensure food security. The CCEA also approved continuation of the urea subsidy scheme to ensure constant availability at the same price of ₹242/45kg per bag.
Apart from this, Fermented Organic Manures/ Phosphate Rich Organic Manures produced as by-product from biogas plants/ compressed biogas plants set up under Gobardhan initiative will be promoted.
