• The UN General Assembly officially designated this day in December 2000. It commemorates the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, held in 1951(in the aftermath of WW II)
• UNHCR– Formally known as the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR was established by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1950.
• It is guided by and acts as the guardian of the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol.
