The Law Commission has invited views from the public on the uniform civil code.
The last commission, the 21st, had on the contrary spoken against such a need at that stage. It had emphasied non-discrimination and recognised that there could be diverse means of governing aspects of personal law.
•'Uniform civil Code denotes the field of personal law relating to marriage, divorce, maintenance, guardianship and custody of children, inheritance and succession and adoption'
•Art. 44 (DPSP) creates an obligation on the State to endeavour to secure for citizens a UCC across the country.
• As of today, Goa is the only state that has a Common Civil Code applicable to all its citizens.
