Facial recognition  technology is an algorithms based technology which  create a   digital  map of the face by identifying and mapping an individual’s facial features ,which it means matches against the database to which it has access.

A facial recognition system is a technology capable of matching a human face from a digital image or a video frame against a database of faces, typically employed to authenticate users through ID verification services, works by pinpointing and measuring facial features from a given image.

Purpose:

1:1 verification of identity e.g. unlocking a phone

Identification of identity e.g. Law enforcement agencies such as the Delhi police usually procure FRT for identification.
