RBI to issue new Rs 20 note

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will soon release new banknotes of Rs 20 denomination in the Mahatma Gandhi (new) Series, bearing the signature of Governer Shaktikanta Das. The new denomination has the motif of the Ellora Cave on the reverse, depicting the country's cultural heritage. The apex bank said that the base color of the note is greenish yellow. All the earlier banknotes issued by RBI would continue to be legal tender.

Former ISRO Chairman given France's Highest Civilian Honour 

Former ISRO chairman A S Kiran Kumar was conferred with France's highest civilian honor, Chevalier de f'Ordre national de la Legion d'Honneur, for his contribution to India-France space cooperation. 

UK Parliament becomes the first to declare Climate Emergency

The UK Parliament became the first legislative body in the world to declare a "climate change emergency". This move is in response to Extinction Rebellion protests that blocked traffic in key parts of central London for a week in April.

16th Ministerial Meeting of Asia Cooperation Dialogue 

The 16th Ministerial Meeting of Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) was held in Doha, Qatar. Gen. (Dr) V.K. Singh (Retd.), Minister of State for External Affairs led the Indian delegation. The theme of the meeting was "Partners in Progress".

ACD was founded in 2002 and India is a founder member of it.

SpaceX launches Falcon 9 rocket with Dragon spacecraft

Elon Musk's Space Exploration Technologies Corp. launched its 17th commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station for the longtime customer NASA. SpaceX will attempt to recover Falcon 9's first stage on a droneship in the Atlantic Ocean.  

World Laughter Day

This day is observed on the first Sunday of May of every year. In 2019, it is being celebrated on May 5. The day began considering how positive and powerful emotion can change people and in fact the world. It was first celebrated on May 10, 1998, in Mumbai.

The International Bank Note Society (IBNS) announced that its voting membership has selected the Bank of Canada to receive its prestigious “Bank Note of the Year Award” for 2018. Almost from the start, Canada’s new vertically oriented $10 bill dominated the voting, followed by Switzerland (200 Franc human hands), Norway (500 Kroner sailing ship), Russia (100 Ruble soccer) and the Solomon Islands (40 Dollar man blowing conch shell) banknotes. When the Bank of Canada announced the release of this note on November 19, 2018, they said they were going in “a new direction.” Polymer replaced paper on Canadian banknotes several years ago but this is the first vertical format note for them.
