Actress Helen, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar and scriptwriter Salim Khan were awarded Deenanath Mangeshkar Award, a award which is given to legends from fields of music, drama, art and social work.

 

World Horticulture Exposition 2019

It is presented by the Bureau International des Expositions. This year it is hosted by  Yanqing District, Beijing, China with a motto 'Building a beautiful Home featuring Harmonious Coexistence between Man and Nature'.
Last time it was hosted by Antalya, Turkey in 2016. 

 

Akandemik Lomonosov: Russia launches floating nuclear power plant

It is known as 'Chernobyl on ice'. It is designed to provide power to a region in Russia's far East. 
China is also constructing a similar power plant.

 

China hosted 2nd Belt and Road Forum (BRF)

It was held in Beijing, China from April 25th to April 27th, 2019. The theme was 'Belt and Road Forum Cooperation: Shaping a Brighter Shared Future'. BRF is a part of Belt and Road Intiative(BRI). The idea of BRI was 1st proposed by Chinese president Xi Jinping in 2013.

 

The Indian Council of Medical (ICMR) launches Malaria Elimination Research Alliences(MERA) 

It is a conglomeration of partners working on malaria control in order to eliminate the disease from India by 2030.

The ICMR is the apex body in India for formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research. It is funded by the government of India through the department of Health and Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It has its headquarter in New Delhi. Dr. Balram Bhargava is the secretary and the Director General.

 

Claire to become first women umpire

Australia's Claire Polosak created history as the first women umpire ever to stand in a men's One-Day International. She took the field in the final of the ICC World Cricket League Division 2. She was the first women to stand in a men's domestic fixture in Australia in her first List A match in Australia in 2017.

 

ISSF World Cup: India won 3 gold, 1 silver

India topped the standings at International Shooting Sport Federation, ISSF World Cup on the final day in Beijing, bagging 4 medals(3 gold, 1 silver). Anjum Moudgil and Divyansh Singh Panwar won a gold in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Teamed competition. Abhishek Verma won India's 3rd gold in men's 10m Air Pistol event.

 

Asian Wrestling Championship(AWC): India ended with 16 medals

AWC was held in Xi'an, China. Harpeet Singh won silver in 82kg category and Halivdar Gyanendra bragged a bronze in 60kg on the final day.

 

India ends with 13 medals at Asian Boxing Championship

These medals include 2 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze. Boxer Amit Panghal picked up his second successive gold medal of the year, claiming th top honours in the 52 kg category. National campion Deepak Singh and Kavinder Singh Bisht in 56kg category category signed off with silver medals close losses.
