Tashigang becomes the Worlds highest Polling station

Tashigang at an altitude of 15,256 feet become the world’s highest polling station in the sleepy hamlet of Buddhist-dominated Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh.

Tashigang polling station falls in one of the 17 assembly segments that form the Mandi Lok Sabha seat.

This polling station covers two villages of Tashigang and Gate.

 

State of Global Climate Report

United Nations weather agency, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) released its annual State of the Global Climate Report. The state of the Global Climate in 2018’, of World Meteorological Organization (WMO) warned that the physical and socio-economic impacts of climate change are accelerating day by day.

It is the 25th annual record of the Global climate.

In this report, there is a significant impact on temperatures, as 2018 was the fourth warmest year on record and almost 1 degree C above from the period of 1850 to 1900.

It was reported that for the effect of greenhouse gases, temperatures may increase up to 3 – 5 degrees C compared to the previous record by the end of the century also, the sea levels were 3.7 millimeters higher than in 2017.

Exercise AUSINDEX

The third edition of the biennial, bilateral exercise AUSINDEX 19 between India and Australia will be held in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

The upcoming exercise will focus on anti-submarine warfare and will see Australia's largest defense force deployment in India.

 

Over 600,000 older Japanese live in social isolation

More than 6 lakh Japanese people over 40 are living in complete isolation from society, staying at home for more than six months without social interaction

The phenomenon is so widespread in Japan it even has its own name -- hikikomori -- defined as someone who does not go to school or work for six months and does not interact with anyone outside their family during that time. 

A government survey published on Friday estimated there was 613,000 hikikomori aged between 40 and 64, nearly three-quarters of whom were male.

Until recently, it was thought to be an issue mainly affecting teenagers and people in their 20s but ageing Japan is seeing a growing number of middle-aged hikikomori cloistering themselves away for longer periods of time.

 

India to be guest country at Paris Book Fair 2020

In a bid to strengthen Indo-French ties, India has been designated as the guest of honour at the Paris Book Fair in 2020, while France will be the guest country at the New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF) in 2022. The announcement was made by the nodal agency – National Book Trust (NBT).

  • The designation of India as the guest country was declared in the joint statement signed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron during the latter’s visit to India in March 2018.
